Rupert Westmacott
About
Continuing a tradition that spans nearly three centuries, Rupert Westmacott follows a distinguished line of Master Carvers, proudly upholding a family legacy of fine craftsmanship.
Now based between London and Dubai, Rupert specialises in figurative sculpture, architectural carving, and historic stone restoration. His portfolio includes work on many of London’s most iconic landmarks—including six Royal Palaces and three of the city’s “Magnificent Seven” cemeteries.
Rupert has a particular passion for carving the human face. His interest in figurative sculpture has led him to study and work in Turkey, Tuscany, and Carrara, where he honed his skills in both classical and contemporary techniques. Each commission begins with detailed modelling in clay or wax, before being faithfully translated into stone.
He works primarily with sedimentary limestone and marble, but relishes the challenge of carving unfamiliar stones. He is also one of the few stone carvers in London with the expertise to replicate historic sculpture purely from photographs or existing fragments.
In addition to restoration and heritage work, Rupert brings a sculptor’s eye to contemporary interiors, creating bespoke wall reliefs, letter cutting, fireplaces, and is in the process of designing and fabricating a line of contemporary furniture pieces. He is also available for commemorative headstones and memorial sculpture.
Though based in London and the UAE, Rupert travels widely for public and private commissions.
He was elected a member to the Master Carvers Association in 2020, becoming one of only eight carvers in the UK recognised for specialism in figure carving in stone.
